For those of you who do not know I grew up in La Porte, which was hit pretty hard by the hurricane. Everywhere you look there are trees, power lines, fences and roofs that are damaged. My parents live less than a mile from the bay but didn't not receive any water damage. They got hit the hardest by the rain and wind which did a number on their trees, but thankfully not the house. As of today they still do not have power, but are living with the help of a generator.
My in-laws also live in La Porte but farther in. Their fence was knocked down, but that's about it. They are also living without electricity but do not have a generator so they brought us some of the good stuff from their fridge and freezer since there was no ice to be found.
Everyone is getting back to work with the help of cell phone alarms and the fact they do have water. My mother-in-law is working from 5 am to 9pm with Centerpoint Energy to help restore electricity. When you drive through the city NOTHING looks the same. I am anxious to see my home town after the clean up.
Here is a slide show of some of the pictures my mother took of their yard. We are all thankful the family came out safe and sound.
